Moving Flint Forward with Heart of Worship Dance Studio

It’s been five years since Porcha Clemons first opened Heart Of Worship Dance Studio inside of West Court Street Church of God. Since then, she has taught hundreds of Flint students the art of hip-hop, jazz, ballet and liturgical dance.
And now – with support from Moving Flint Forward, a grant program from General Motors and the Flint & Genesee Economic Alliance that supports revitalization efforts in Flint by strengthening local businesses – she’s making upgrades to better serve her young clientele. Most recently, this has included installing a new dance floor and ballet barre for her classroom.
“This puts my studio on a higher level,” says Clemons. “My students now have the proper equipment to learn and advance their dance technique. I’m grateful (Moving Flint Forward) chose to support my business and invest in my kids.”
As part of the grant program, Clemons has also participated in multiple cohort meetings that include professional development trainings as well as networking with other grant recipients. She’s learned how to strengthen her marketing efforts and built connections to address various challenges and opportunities.
“Every time I go, I leave inspired,” Clemons says.
