As part of the Moving Flint Forward Small Business Grant Program, each grantee must work with a local nonprofit organization, either through volunteering, coordinating a service project or providing a service pro bono.
This weekend, for example, Deria Brown of Glam Box Boutique offered a free course through the Sparkle Pink Club, focused on building entrepreneurship and leadership skills.
“This is about modeling entrepreneurship for the next generation,” says Deria, who led a group of local girls through a series of lessons about starting a small business and making good decisions. “We want them to be successful.”
