Investment by Michigan Strategic Fund Board essential to position Advanced Manufacturing District as premier location for new business

(Flint, Mich., May 21, 2024) The Flint & Genesee Economic Alliance is praising a new grant awarded today by the Michigan Strategic Fund Board (MSF) to attract a new job-creating project to the Advanced Manufacturing District of Genesee County.

The MSF Board awarded a $250 million grant to the Flint & Genesee Economic Alliance to support the organization’s continued efforts to bring an advanced manufacturer to the 1,000-acre Advanced Manufacturing District. The site is well positioned to be home to an advanced manufacturer that will create thousands of new jobs, pump millions of dollars into the local economy and help bring the supply chain back to the United States.

“We appreciate the continued support of the MSF Board for our work to bring an advanced manufacturer to Genesee County that will create new jobs and new opportunities for young people,” said Tyler Rossmaessler, the executive director of the Flint & Genesee Economic Alliance. “Today’s action is incredibly important and represents a fundamental step toward creating an attractive site for a job-creating project that will change the trajectory of our community now and for generations to come.”

More than 20 businesses and organizations in Genesee County, including the Hurley Foundation and Dee Cramer, a fifth-generation family-owned sheet metal and HVAC contractor, have signed a letter of support for efforts to attract an advanced manufacturer to the region. The letter is on the Flint & Genesee Economic Alliance website at GeneseeJobs.org.

“A new project would benefit so many in our community, including those in the skilled trades who would help build a new facility,” said Matt Cramer, president of Dee Cramer. “We are deeply invested in Genesee County, and we are proud to be among local businesses supporting this critical effort to bring new opportunities that will benefit our families, neighbors and local businesses for years to come.”

The district in Mundy Township has been carefully planned and prepared to attract an advanced manufacturer. The site has several compelling characteristics for industry, including its proximity to three freeways, an airport, a railroad, and access to skilled trades workers as well as three great local colleges.

“It’s encouraging to see support from the MSF Board for the important work to attract a once-in-a-generation opportunity in Genesee County, which has experienced decades of job losses,” said Karima Amlani, president of the Hurley Foundation. “We are excited to see another step toward more people living and working in our incredible community.”
